Paris - French President Emmanuel Macron said today in a televised address to the nation that he wants the reconstruction of the fire-damaged Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris to be completed within five years. "We will rebuild Notre-Dame even more beautiful," added the head of the Élysée Palace. He also praised the work of the firefighters, who he said took significant risks during the intervention.

"Throughout our history, we have built cities, ports, churches. Many of them have burned down, been destroyed. Each time we have rebuilt them," stated the head of France. The fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral, according to him, serves as a reminder that history has not stopped, and that there will always be obstacles to overcome. "What we thought was indestructible can also be struck," he added.

However, the fire of the famous monument pointed out, according to Macron, the ability of the French to "mobilize and unite to win."

Macron also stated that he would reach out to the French again in the coming days to present the changes his government intends to make in response to the protests of the so-called yellow vests movement. "But that moment has not yet arrived," he said. He was originally supposed to announce new measures on Monday, but he canceled the evening speech due to the fire at Notre-Dame.
