Beijing - Is it a donut with a hole in the middle? Is it a horseshoe? A cowboy with crooked legs? Whatever the new addition to the American hotel chain Sheraton in the Chinese city of Huzhou resembles, it is certainly not boring and is among the strangest hotels where tourists can stay in the world, reported the news server CNN.
The hotel, which opened in early August, was designed by Beijing architect Ma Yansong. The Sheraton Huzhou Hot Springs Resort was created from layers of individual floors that rise in the form of a ring on the shores of Taihu Lake in Huzhou. The hotel is more than 100 meters tall and 116 meters wide.
Guests are captivated not only by its unusual shape but also, for instance, by the lobby, which is illuminated by chandeliers made from 20,000 Swarovski crystals. The floor is made of Afghan white jade and Brazilian tiger's eye stone.
In the hotel's 27 floors, there are 321 rooms, including 40 suites and other even more luxurious "residences" and "presidential suites."
According to information from Sheraton, the hotel cost $1.5 billion (about 30 billion crowns). Although Huzhou does not yet have a strong reputation on the international scene, it was chosen for the hotel because it is a popular destination for residents of Shanghai, located just 160 kilometers away, for weekend getaways.
Huzhou is famous for its hot springs and bamboo forests, where scenes from the Oscar-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were filmed.
