Cinema House in Porto (Souto de Moura; 2002) is dedicated to the work of Manoel de Oliveira.
Lisbon - Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira wants to step behind the camera again at the age of 102. In September, he plans to start filming his next movie based on the play by Portuguese writer Raúl Brandão, Gebo e a Sombra. This was announced by producer Luís Urbano according to the AFP agency.
The world's oldest active director and screenwriter, who will celebrate his 103rd birthday in December, has declared in several earlier interviews that if he rested, he would die.
The lead roles in his new dramedy, which will be filmed in Paris and in French, will likely be played by French actor Michel Piccoli and his wife Ludivine Clerc, as well as the director's grandson Ricardo Trêpa.
The former athlete, race car driver, and port wine producer de Oliveira began his artistic career in 1930 with a silent film about the Douro River. Since then, he has made about fifty feature films and documentaries, for which he has received more than 40 film awards.
His latest film, which appeared on cinema screens, O estranho caso de Angélica (The Strange Case of Young Angelica), was premiered last year at the Cannes International Film Festival.
