On Sunday, August 27, 2006, a new glass museum in Toledo (state of Ohio) designed by the Japanese studio SANAA (their first realization in the USA) will be open to the general public. The pavilion expands the exhibition spaces of the existing art museum. It will house a large number of glass objects from the museum's collections. At the same time, it will be used for temporary exhibitions and demonstrations of glass production. The square glass showcase is situated in a park among century-old trees. To ensure the most intense experience of the surrounding nature, SANAA incorporated several open inner courtyards into its design. The layout of the pavilion consists of many smaller rooms that resemble soft-shaped soap bubbles. The museum lacks any corridors or corners in the rooms. Info>
