In cooperation with the artistic agency Foibos, the Winternitz Villa prepared an exhibition that will showcase the development of villa architecture in the territory of the Prague 5 district from the farmsteads and manorial estates of the 17th century to modern buildings of the 20th century. The location of this exhibition directly in one of the highest-quality villas in this part of Prague will be a unique experience!
Recently opened spaces of the Winternitz Villa will be filled with a selection of twenty exhibition panels, which will bring the era in which specific objects were created closer through text and rich visual materials, while also placing the buildings within certain stories of their owners and creators. The walk begins in Jinonice at a manorial estate with a brewery, whose origins date back to 1620, continues to the Smíchov farmsteads of Portheimka, Bertramka, and Klamovka, and reaches the baroness Ringhoffer's Château, one of the first Art Nouveau buildings in Bohemia, finally arriving at modern villas in the vicinity of U Mrázovky, Na Cihlářce, U Malvazinky, and Nad Santoškou, many of which bear the attributes of functionalist architecture. The youngest example is the family house Pod Děvínem, completed in 2005.
“Among the villa owners are several well-known personalities, such as the writer Vladislav Vančura, who had his villa built in Zbraslav, or the art theorist Karel Teige, whose house you can find among the terraced houses on U Šalamounky street. The names of the construction authors are also significant. Architects Otakar Novotný, Jaromír Krejcar, Arnošt Wiesner, and others left an indelible mark of high-quality architecture on Prague 5. You can admire it with us and Adolf Loos all summer long in the Winternitz Villa.” says the exhibition curator Kristýna Jirátová.
