Winternitz Villa of the famous functionalist architect Adolf Loos will exceptionally open to the public from February 17 to February 23, 2017, daily from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This is a unique opportunity to view the extraordinary interior of this architectural gem, which is privately owned and mostly inaccessible.
In the villa - as the official name of the event goes, an exhibition of artworks by more than twenty authors across genres will take place simultaneously during the opening. Sculptures, paintings, photographs, and glass objects will be displayed throughout the spaces. One of the rooms will also feature video mapping. Most of the works will be by contemporary creators such as Michal Cimula, Denisa Grimmová, Miroslav Liederhaus, Petr Voříšek, Tomáš Havránek, Pavel Smolík, and others. The thirties will be represented by the famous sculptor Hana Wichterlová.
“We are opening the villa to the public for the third time. The first similar event took place in 1999 in the then still devastated building and was aptly titled ‘Hole Not Hole’. The second time the villa was opened to the public was after its renovation in 2012.”, says the event organizer, great-grandson of Josef Winternitz, David Cysař.
Especially for this opening, a room dedicated to the history of the villa is prepared: “Recently, I found several personal items from my great-grandfather. Besides them, you will also see family correspondence with architect Loos and Lhota, requests for the return of property after returning from the concentration camp, original plans of the villa, and photographs of the owners from the thirties.”, adds Cysař.
In addition to visual art, the villa will come alive with theater over the weekend. You can also look forward to a lecture on architecture by PhDr. Vladimír CZUMALA, CSc.
