Mapping
A map is one of the fundamental tools of an architect. It can serve as a background, a result, or the central process of creation itself. It always has its creator, its method, and its goal; it is a filtered slice of reality, a statement about attitude and interest. Maps combine the advantages and limitations of transferring perceptions of the real world into transferable forms. The subjective environment of creation conflicts with the idea of a map as an objectively recorded fact. Do we map what is, or do we create reality through mapping?
The Mapping series presents four approaches to maps, their possibilities, and significance. Mapping the city and its history, cities under pressure from global migratory changes, excluded locations, and unknown layers in a familiar region.
