HRADECK KRÁLOVÉ - The Prague company Amádeus Real will build a multi-storey shopping arcade with a parking lot and market in the center of Hradec Králové. Construction could begin in the second half of this year, with completion expected in 2008. The facility is intended to primarily compete with shopping galleries in hypermarkets on the outskirts of the city. CTK was informed by Hradec municipal deputy Josef Malíř. The multifunctional passage building, costing several hundred million crowns, will fill the vacant space right next to the Tesco department store at the pedestrian zone. Currently, stalls with fruits and vegetables occupy part of the area, while another section serves as a parking lot. "The market will be preserved in the building; the parking will be on two floors and on the roof of the new facility," Malíř said. The facility will also house shops, restaurants, cafés, and various services. Part of the construction will also involve changes to the traffic regime around the new arcade. The city will allocate 12.8 million crowns for adjustments to adjacent roads and sidewalks, while Amádeus Real will spend nearly ten million crowns. The commercial building is expected to contribute to the revitalization of the city center and act as a counterbalance to shopping centers on the outskirts of Hradec Králové. The hypermarkets in Hradec include the chains Tesco, Carrefour, Ahold, Interspar, Kaufland, Hornbach, Obi, and Baumax.
