Architect David Vávra will design the reconstruction of the Kutná Hora brewery

Kutná Hora - The Kutná Hora brewery, which was abandoned by Heineken, will receive a new form. Its author will be architect David Vávra. The empty site should be used for housing, social purposes, and it could also host a microbrewery with a restaurant, said Mayor Ivo Šanc (Chance for Kutná Hora) to ČTK.
The city hall leadership is skeptical about maintaining large-scale beer production in the city. It would require significant investment costs and it would be a question of how the manufacturer could establish itself in the market. Therefore, the city prefers to transform the brewery into a multifunctional complex.
"Architect David Vávra is voluntarily preparing a study; we had him here on Monday, we talked about his concept, and I liked it," said the mayor.
According to him, Vávra's concept is very realistic. "No reconstructions, heavy hundreds of millions, but a real vision of how to use those buildings," noted Šanc. Part of the work should be financed by the city and part by entrepreneurs. "It would be a combination of housing, small businesses, social use, services for mothers with children, and a microbrewery with a restaurant," the mayor clarified. However, the city hall does not yet have any ideas about costs; the entire concept is still in development.
Heineken ceased production in Kutná Hora last year because it was unprofitable to brew Dačický beer at the brewery and relocated it to Velké Březno. Since then, the city hall has been searching for a use for the site. This summer, an alternative music festival, Creepy Teepee, took place behind the brewery's walls.
David Vávra, who is known to most people from the Sklep theatre, films, and television sketches, has a broad architectural scope - from restaurant and bar interiors to new family houses and the renovation of larger buildings. Recently, he designed the yet-to-be-realized renovation of the Kladno theatre and the library for the city of Hradec Králové, which is being constructed by converting the Vertex factory.
