Pardubice – Pardubice will select an architectural office on Monday that will create a design for a parking garage near the winter and summer stadiums. Besides functionality, the building should also look good; construction could begin within two years, said the city’s deputy mayor Petr Kvaš (ODS) to ČTK.

"The parking garage will be in the central part of the city, and we expect it to have modern elements, such as green roofs and facades. The building will create a street line and should not only be an industrial building for parking. It should contribute to the architecture of the city,” Kvaš said.

The winner of the tender should be confirmed by the city council on Monday. According to Kvaš, the city center needs the parking garage. If the city hall repairs the summer stadium, it will need another 100 parking spaces for its occupancy, which are currently not available in the area. And that is not the only reason, Kvaš said.

"Pardubice does not have a parking garage where the city is the investor. And it deserves one; it needs one. The winter stadium has a capacity of almost 10,000 spectators, and a parking garage is essential for cultural and sports needs. This location will also offer parking spaces for residents,” Kvaš said.

The parking garage should have 500 to 550 spaces. One parking spot will likely cost more than 400,000 crowns. Thus, the city expects investments of over 200 million crowns, Kvaš said.

Close to the stadium, a private investor also wants to build a parking garage, but for a different type of clientele. The Prague property management is considering a building with up to five above-ground and one underground level. The capacity will be around 300 cars. The spaces will be for the chamber Philharmonic, concert visitors, a food school, and residents.

"Only part of the parking garage behind the House of Music will be for visitors; the building has a different character. I would be pleased if the construction of the city parking garage started within two years,” Kvaš added.
