Pardubice – The Pardubice city council today approved the investment plan to build a parking garage near the ice hockey stadium. According to estimates, it should cost 193 million crowns excluding VAT. The city will include it among significant investment projects.
Today, the city hall presented the architectural study to the councilors, designed by architect Michal Palaščák. The building is to be located at the corner of Sukova třída and U Stadionu streets, specifically on the parking lot near the multifunctional arena. The spaces are intended for residents of the city center and its visitors.
It is expected to provide around 400 spaces. Parking may also be available on the roof, which may have a green roof. The chairman of the Pirate Party's council club, Vojtěch Jirsa, who deals with transportation, expressed concern that the parking garage would increase the number of cars in the city center, stating that such facilities should be built on the outskirts of urban centers.
According to the proponent of the project, Deputy Mayor Petr Kvaš (ODS), although the city will finance the construction from its own resources, the investment will pay off in a few years from parking fees.
Kvaš stated that the parking garage will help alleviate the Václav Havel waterfront, which is congested with parked cars. A leisure area is to be located by the Elbe. Mayor Martin Charvát (ANO) rejected the objection that the city wants to build a parking garage as a condition for the planned renovation of the summer stadium. "The summer stadium needs the completion of 100 parking spaces, not the construction of a parking garage; let's be precise," Charvát said.
