Benešov – Benešov will purchase the Piarist College from the church in the city center. They will pay 40 million in two installments, half this year and the rest next year. The proposal was approved today by the city councilors. The church offered the property for sale, and the city hall does not want it to be acquired by someone else and left to deteriorate.
The councilors had previously agreed on the intention to acquire the building for city ownership and today voted on the documents related to the purchase of the building. "We have agreed after several discussions with lawyers on the text of the purchase contract and on the consideration of the easements that exist between the parish and the archbishopric, which we will assume upon the purchase of the college," said Deputy Mayor Roman Tichovský (ODS).
Most councilors had previously agreed that this is one of the most significant buildings in Benešov and the city should acquire it. They consider it irresponsible for someone else to buy it and let it fall into disrepair.
The building is rented out except for two offices, with rental income of 1.9 million crowns. According to Tichovský, the building can remain in its current state for some time, but it is necessary to gradually replace the windows and repair the facade. In the future, it is necessary to consider a larger investment in connection with the building's intended use by the city.
The Piarist College was built in 1708 with the baroque Church of Saint Anne, which will remain the property of the parish. Together, they form a landmark of Masaryk Square. The ground floor of the college has 30 rooms, with an additional 20 on the first floor. In the center of the main building, there is a paradise garden with a fountain. The complex has a total area of nearly 3,400 square meters.
