Benešov - Benešov is preparing the reconstruction of the Piarist College, which it purchased from the church in 2021. This year, it aims to restore the façade to the courtyard and repair a section where exhibition spaces for the Podblanice Museum will be created. This year's costs are estimated at around 14 million crowns, informed the CTK spokesperson for the town hall, Tereza Lípová.

This year, the city invested 210,000 CZK excluding tax into the restoration of the windows to the courtyard, and for an additional seven million crowns, it wants to repair the façade and replace the entrance doors in this area. Additionally, it plans to build three offices on the first floor for 3.5 million crowns and prepare spaces for the museum for the same amount.

Next year, the reconstruction of the basement of the western wing for the Podblanice Museum, the repair of the courtyard including greenery according to an architectural study, the restoration of windows and the façade in the cloister garden, and the restoration of the sundial, which is in poor condition, should be addressed.

The Podblanice Museum, which is a contributory organization of the Central Bohemia Region, has branches in Benešov, Vlašim, and Růžkovy Lhotice. The branch from the Small Square in Benešov is set to relocate to the premises of the Piarist College. This will free up space for the Museum of Art and Design established by the town. The collection items are now stored in several buildings and need more space for expansion.

The church sold the Piarist College to the town for 40 million crowns. The town hall did not want it to be acquired by someone else and allowed to deteriorate. The building is mostly rented out. The Piarist College was built in 1708 with the Baroque Church of St. Anne, which, however, remained owned by the parish. Together, they form a dominant feature of Masaryk Square. There are 30 rooms on the ground floor of the college, and another 20 on the first floor. In the middle of the main building is a cloister garden with a fountain. The area has a total area of nearly 3,400 square meters.
