Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav - Brandýs nad Labem plans to build a new footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists over the Elbe River. It should be located at the site of the original bridge beneath the Brandýs Castle. The estimated costs are 47.3 million crowns, of which the city can receive an 85 percent European grant. This year, they aim to select a construction company, with the project expected to be completed by September 2026 at the latest, said Kateřina Stránská from the city to ČTK.
"It would be a completely new structure for pedestrians and cyclists. However, it will be in the place where the original bridge over the Elbe stood, which was demolished in 1932 due to the regulation of the Elbe. The bridge pillars are still visible at this location," Stránská noted.
Residents of Brandýs currently have only one option for getting from one part of the town to another, which is the busy General Liška Bridge. According to Stránská, all traffic passing through the city center also goes over this bridge. "For motorists, there is also the alternative of detouring via the D10 highway. However, pedestrians have no other option," she added.
Last week, the city council also decided to create a so-called cycling general plan, which will propose cycling routes in the city and its vicinity. It will include, for example, a proposal for the unification of street furniture, support for cycling at city events, or the establishment of cycling routes to schools.
