Brno - Brno wants to build a multifunctional sports facility at Lužánky that will serve the public, schools, companies, and clubs year-round. This was stated today by Jana Vašíčková from the press department of the city hall in a press release. The estimated costs are 80 million crowns excluding VAT.
The intention to build the sports facility at Lužánky has been approved by the city council. The project documentation should be prepared by the end of 2021 at the latest. "The planned sports facility will offer the public, in the winter months, not only a modern ice rink but also a speed skating oval of 333.3 meters long complying with the requirements of the International Skating Union for organizing junior competitions and a hockey rink measuring 60 by 30 meters," said the councilor for sports, Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL).
In the summer, according to him, summer sports facilities will operate. "We will specify their list during the project work. It could include, for example, a mobile pump track, a small-sided football field, or other ball sports," said Suchý. In the next phase, the need for roofing or shading of the facility and the construction of stands will be addressed.
In the area behind Lužánky, near the planned sports facility, there is also a football stadium where Zbrojovka won its only title in the last century. However, since the beginning of the millennium, it has been deteriorating. The city intended to build a new stadium there along with a hockey hall, but in this area, there are long-term property rights disputes being resolved.
