Brno – A multifunctional sports facility including a speed skating track will be built at Lužánky in Brno. The estimated cost is 170 million crowns. The sports facility will serve its purpose in both summer and winter, stated Brno's councilor for sports Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL) in a press release today.

The council today approved the selection of the company Arch.Design, which will create project documentation within 12 months, including securing engineering services and subsequent author supervision during construction. According to the city, the sports facility will improve conditions for Brno athletes. "The facility will also include a speed skating oval, which is rare not only in Brno. We will create space for training Czech speed skaters, who have a good reputation and a strong position in the world," stated Suchý.

According to him, the space will serve the public, schools, and sports clubs. "The construction is divided into two phases; in the first phase, fields for hockey and small football, areas for skating and ball sports will be built. The existing building with facilities will be expanded. In the second phase, builders will construct the speed skating oval, stands, and a roof," said Suchý.
