Brno – Brno has again allocated 19 million crowns from the city budget this year for projects related to so-called green roofs; interested parties can apply from February 1st. Over the two years that the program has been running, the city has recorded more than 200 successful applications. This was stated in a press release by Zuzana Gregorová from the press department of the city hall.

Brno first announced the grant program to support the creation of green roofs in 2019, when it recorded 105 successful applications for grants. In 2020, 99 were submitted, leading to a total of 204 green roofs being established.

"This year we have launched the program again; applicants can apply from February 1st to October 31st. We have allocated 19 million crowns from the city budget for this. The maximum supported area is 1000 m², and the highest contribution per square meter of green roof is 1400 crowns," stated Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).

The maximum grant for one project can thus reach 1.4 million plus expenses for obtaining a static assessment and related documents up to 10,000 crowns. According to the program rules, the constructions must be located within the city of Brno, regardless of whether they are apartment buildings, family houses, or garages.

There are changes in the grant program compared to previous years. For example, it is now necessary to document that the applicant has received subsidies for the green roof, even from the call "New Green Savings." Grants are also no longer provided for an already functioning green roof if it is solely achieved through vegetation for aesthetic purposes. Additionally, a five-year sustainability requirement has been newly introduced, which the applicant must document with photos showing an overall view of the roof.
