Brno – Brno today launched applications for cooperative housing projects in the Holásky district of Brno-Tuřany and at Mostecká 16. Whether the applicant will get an apartment will be determined, among other things, by the speed of registration, said Deputy Mayor for Housing Karin Podivinská Karasová (Brnoklidem) to reporters today. The city plans to start construction work in Holásky and on Mostecká Street next year.

"These projects are smaller than the Kamenný vrch project. On Mostecká Street, there are 25 newly renovated apartments, which will be 1+1 or 2+1 in size. In Holásky, the apartments will be more suitable for families with children, as a new kindergarten is being built nearby, it is close to the Holásecká lakes, and this residential complex of 33 apartments will include a pond," said Podivinská Karasová.

Applicants for apartments can be couples or single parents with a child in sole custody. Singles without children can also apply for an apartment, but their selection is limited to 1+kk and 2+kk apartments. Applicants must not own any residential property in Brno. They must also demonstrate sufficient net monthly income, the amount of which depends on the size of the apartment. The city has published further conditions on its website.

Applicants will first choose which apartment they prefer. Based on the order of their registration, they will sign reservation contracts and pay a deposit of 100,000 crowns, which will then be deducted from the price of the apartment.

"The price per square meter will only be definitively clear after the selection of the contractor for each project; however, barring any unforeseen crises, it can be expected to be significantly lower than for commercial development projects. Unlike private developers, the city does not have any margin on the apartments, and cooperatives acquire them at cost," said Podivinská Karasová.

For comparison, she stated that the final price per square meter of a cooperative apartment in Kamenný vrch is 107,839 crowns. "So, for example, a 74-square-meter 3+kk apartment costs eight million crowns," she added.
