Czech architecture has another award for architects – the Architect of the Year award, which will be presented annually. A five-member jury will select an architect – a person who has contributed the most to the good reputation of Czech architecture in the past five years.
The statute of the Architect of the Year award mentions qualities of the awarded, including: professional and moral integrity, a high level of his architectural work or a specific project, as well as theoretical, pedagogical, promotional, publishing, and popularization practices. The selected architect does not have to meet all these categories, but he should excel in some of them. The aim of establishing this tradition in awarding the prize is the effort of the issuer, company ABF, a.s., the organizer of the FOR ARCH construction fair – to support quality and professional, civic engagement in the field of architecture in the Czech Republic. But also to spread the good name of Czech architecture abroad.

The awarding of this prize could create a tradition that will complement the already awarded prizes in the Czech architectural scene by truly recognizing the creative and formative architect for his qualities, in the sense of the world-famous Pritzker Prize, also known as the Nobel Prize for architecture. Architects will therefore not submit applications for nominations for a fee but will be nominated by anyone and selected by a professional jury.

One member of the jury will be replaced annually. The expert jury of 2013 consisted of chairman Zdeněk Fránek /FUA TU in Liberec, Fránek Architects/, members: Petr Hrůša /FAST VŠB-TU Ostrava, Architects Hrůša & spol., Atelier Brno, s.r.o./, Michal Kohout /FA ČVUT in Prague, Housing Quality Centre o. s., UNIT architects s.r.o./, Regina Loukotová /ARCHIP, GEM architects, s.r.o./, Osamu Okamura /reSITE, ARCHIP, FA STU in Bratislava, ERA21/.

From the narrower selection, the jury nominated the following architects for the award:

Antonín Novák / Architects D.R.N.H.

Adam Gebrian
