Cheb - The city of Cheb will demolish the garages by the granary, which were used by the town hall. The demolition will allow the city to reconstruct the courtyard between Hradební and Dlouhá streets, where parking spaces and relaxation zones will be created, said Cheb's mayor Antonín Jalovec (
VPM).

"In the courtyard between Hradební and Dlouhá, there is a relatively large, not very well-maintained building of the town hall's garages. We are planning a reconstruction of the entire courtyard and this building is in our way, so we have requested permission for its demolition," Jalovec stated.

The courtyard on Hradební is one of the largest in the historical center of Cheb. The city plans to increase parking capacity there, but part of the courtyard should have a green zone with benches. The demolition of the garages is estimated to cost several hundred thousand crowns. The reconstruction of the courtyard is expected to cost around 20 million crowns.

The adjacent granary, a significant monument that belonged to the Franciscan monastery complex, is also expected to see more intensive use. Currently, there are models of unique Cheb trusses in it, and eventually, an exhibition mapping the historical trusses in Cheb is to be created, which, due to their age and complexity, are among the most significant truss collections in Europe.
