Cheb - Koželužská street in Cheb is set for a significant transformation. The city wants to buy garages from their owners and offer land for the construction of residential buildings in return. The city has already obtained consent from the majority of owners, while the others will be offered relocation into one block of garages, said Tomáš Linda (ODS), the deputy mayor, to ČTK. The plan to redevelop the entire street, which runs along the flow of the Ohře river and provides a view of the Cheb Castle, is based on a revitalization study of the Poohří region, prepared years ago by the prestigious studio A69 - architects. "Our property rights department approached the owners of all 54 garages with a preliminary offer earlier this spring. We received 35 positive responses. The others agree to relocate to the garages that are closest to Havlíčkova Street. This would free up a continuous row of garages in the Koželužská area, which is most essential for the implementation of our plan," Linda stated. The city offers 100,000 crowns for one garage. If the owners are interested, instead of money, the city can provide them with some garages or land that it owns in another part of Cheb. Most of the land in Koželužská Street belongs to the city, while the remaining land has private garages. "We are convinced that it will not be a losing investment. This is a very attractive location, where the plots could be sold for at least 800 crowns per square meter. This should cover the costs of buying the garages, their subsequent demolition, and the preparation of building plots," Linda added. In places where new houses are to be built, there used to be historical tanning houses, of which only the last two have been preserved.
