Lidice - A new exhibition in the Lidice cottage No. 116 near the Lidice Gallery commemorates the construction of the new Lidice and the original post-war Lidice household. "The exhibition is a significant contribution not only to the understanding of post-war history of architecture and design, but it also uncovers the still poorly documented history and political background of the post-war reconstruction of Czechoslovakia," said the director of the Lidice Memorial, Martina Lehmannová.

For the preparation of the exhibition opened in December, the Ministry of Culture, which is the founder of the memorial, first had to purchase the cottage and also paid for its renovation. The costs amounted to approximately nine million crowns. Last year marked the 75th anniversary of the destruction of the village by the Nazis and the 70th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the new Lidice.

The cottage originally had five rooms: a living room, a kitchen with a pantry, a children's bedroom, a parents' bedroom, one additional room in the attic, a bathroom, and a toilet. The furnishings of the rooms are original and were donated by the residents of Lidice. Original items such as an electric oven, a coffee table, and wingback chairs have been obtained. The originally children's room now serves as a research room with a library, and the attic room is used for educational events.

Another part of the exhibition consists of unobtrusive pull-out panels that cover the topic of the construction of the new Lidice, the memorial site, and similar themes. The panels also present the architectural competition for the construction of the village, which was the first public architectural competition in post-war Czechoslovakia. The new Lidice were built according to the plans of architects František Marek, Václav Hilský, Richard Podzemný, and Antonín Tenzer.
