Prague - Today, the 14th edition of the Film and Architecture festival will kick off in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, and 12 other cities. It offers dozens of documentary and feature films, with one of the themes focusing on the fate and work of often overlooked women in architecture. The very first film, a documentary by German director Susanne Radelhof about women of the famous Bauhaus art school, will be screened today at the Světozor cinema in Prague. The festival, organized by the Kruh association, will last until October 6. Alongside it, the Architecture Day festival will take place from October 2 to 7, as reported by the ČTK on behalf of the organizers Silvie Marková.

The festival will showcase prominent and overlooked personalities. In the cinema halls, it will feature the work of leading Spanish architect Enric Miralles, Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld, pioneer of modern architecture in Sri Lanka Minnette De Silva, and activist Frances Goldin, who managed to save a neighborhood in the heart of Manhattan from developers' plans.

Festival screenings in Prague and Brno will be accompanied by discussions with a number of filmmakers and protagonists of the individual films. Among other things, after the screening of the film Remnants of the Future, the audience will have the opportunity to meet New York architect Ada Tolla, who was one of the first to start using surplus shipping containers. The Prague section will also include a series entitled Mental Hygiene by Aleš Stuchlý on the topic of film architecture.

"Film and architecture is not just about buildings and design, but shows how architecture shapes our lives and inspires us to think about how we can transform the environment around us," added the curator of the exhibition Václav Ševčík.

The festival will also focus on questions of the future and innovation, and this year will also address cities and buildings in Latin America. The program will include a block of short films by students, graduates of film schools, and independent filmmakers.

Alongside Film and Architecture, the 15th edition of Architecture Day will be held from October 2 to 7, which this year received the subtitle That Architecture to emphasize the female perspective. It will bring around 450 guided walks, excursions to normally inaccessible places, lectures, and workshops across the Czech Republic and also in Slovakia.
