Prague - In Prague, Brno, Ostrava, and 12 other cities, the 14th edition of the Film and Architecture festival will begin on October 1st. It offers around thirty documentary and feature films. It will present insights into the work of architects, designers, and artists, their works, visions, and personal stories. The festival, organized by the Kruh association, will last until October 6th. This year, like the parallel festival Day of Architecture, the showcase will also focus significantly on often-overlooked women in the field. Today, Silvie Marková informed CTK on behalf of the organizers.

"In separate sections, the festival will focus on questions of the future of architecture, innovation, and exceptionally this year, it will also address the cities and buildings of Latin America," Marková stated.

The festival will present prominent and overlooked personalities in the field of architecture. In the cinemas, it will feature works by leading Spanish architect Enric Miralles, Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld, pioneer of modern architecture in Sri Lanka Minnette De Silva, and activist Frances Goldin, who managed to save a neighborhood in the heart of Manhattan from developers' plans.

Festival screenings in Prague and Brno will be accompanied by discussions with several filmmakers and protagonists of individual films. Among other things, after the screening of the film Remnants of the Future, attendees can meet New York architect Ada Tolla, one of the first to begin repurposing unwanted shipping containers. The Prague segment will also include a series on Mental Hygiene by Aleš Stuchlý on the topic of film architecture.

"Film and architecture is not just about buildings and design, but shows how architecture shapes our lives and inspires us to think about how we can reshape the environment around us," added the curator of the showcase, Václav Ševčík.

Film and Architecture this year emphasizes overlooked personalities and buildings, dedicating a section to the Overlooked. The showcase will also commemorate significant Dutch designer Gerrit Rietveld and his 1924 house, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which he created with patron Truus Schröder-Schräder. The section That Architecture will open the festival with the participation of director Susanne Radelhof, featuring the German documentary Women of the Bauhaus. The section What Next? reflects on the future not only in architecture. The program line of the traditional section Inspirations has been prepared this year by Uruguayan director, producer, and founder of the ARCA festival, Mercedes Sader. The showcase is complemented by a block of short films by students, graduates of film schools, or independent filmmakers.

Along with Film and Architecture, the 15th edition of the Day of Architecture festival will take place from October 2nd to 7th, which this year has the subtitle That Architecture and will focus on the female perspective. It will offer around 450 guided walks, excursions to normally inaccessible places, lectures, and workshops across the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Film and Architecture festival is an international film festival focused on architecture, design, and art in the Czech Republic. It annually offers a collection of films, mainly in their Czech premieres, that, alongside architecture, also address visual art. It stimulates discussions on architecture and urbanism through screenings of authorial documentaries, innovative, experimental, and feature films.
