Hlučín – The residents of Hlučín in the Opava region have been rewarded with a new square after a long period of renovation. The reconstruction cost about 32.5 million crowns, with the state contributing ten million crowns towards the repairs, said Jarmila Harazinová, spokesperson for the municipal office, to ČTK. The city began the reconstruction of the square back in 1999, gradually updating the engineering networks. This year, the transformation of the square was completed with surface improvements. The bushes around the square were replaced with flower beds, and the square was equipped with new benches and lighting, for example. "The square features decorative elements in the form of the city’s emblem, directional rose, and also the floor plan of the chapel that once stood in the square," Harazinová stated. Today's ceremonial opening of Mírové náměstí coincided with the traditional Hlučín festivities, which also includes a cultural program featuring performers such as singer Petra Janů and singer Pavel Dobeš.
