Hradec Králové - The monument of the former significant mayor of Hradec Králové, František Ulrich, will be placed in Svobody Square in September or October of this year. Sculptor Stanislav Hanzík has already completed about half of the statue, and work on the monument's foundations will begin in August, said the Deputy Mayor of Hradec Králové, Martin Soukup, to reporters today.
"The work is currently proceeding as planned," said Soukup. According to him, it will now be necessary to check the substrate at the site of the future monument, after which concrete foundations will be built. The monument will have two parts; the figurative part will represent the seated Ulrich, while the other will be an artifact carved according to Gočár's regulatory plan for the city and solar clocks. The city hall has allocated 3.5 million crowns for the creation of the monument and the carving work.
František Ulrich led the city hall from 1895 to 1929, and during his tenure, the city gained, for example, railway and road connections and the regulation of the Elbe and Orlice rivers in the city center. Ulrich also invited prominent architects Jan Kotěra and Josef Gočár to the city. The city hall has been striving for the establishment of Ulrich's monument for several years.
