Hradec Králové - The city of Hradec Králové would like to build a new canoe clubhouse for paddlers on the banks of the Orlice River. The town hall estimates the construction costs at 30 million crowns. The new facility will replace the inadequate clubhouse located on the right bank of the Orlice behind the sports complex of TJ Slavia, city representatives told reporters today.
City councilors have already approved the conditions for the tender for a construction company. The final decision will rest with the councilors, who are expected to comment on the investment at the meeting on November 8. If the councilors agree, the winner of the tender could be announced at the beginning of 2022, and the actual construction could begin at the turn of spring and summer.
The current clubhouse belongs to the city and is used by the canoeing section of TJ Sokol Hradec Králové. "The condition of the current facility is completely inadequate and is also insufficient in terms of capacity,” said Mayor Alexandr Hrabálek (ODS). The clubhouse will remain operational during the construction. The new clubhouse is expected to consist of a two-story building, which will be divided into clubhouse facilities and a boat storage area. It will be a steel structure covered with wooden cladding.
The city will seek a grant from the National Sports Agency for the construction, which could cover up to 70 percent of the expenses. The city submitted the grant application in September.
This year's main investment by the city in sports facilities is the construction of a football stadium, which began this year at a cost of 568 million crowns excluding VAT. This is the largest contract in the modern history of the city. The stadium is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023.
