Hradec Králové - The Hradec Králové region will present the project for the reconstruction of the local Škroup's house in Osice in December, estimated at 40 million crowns. The event will also include a discussion on specific options for the usage of the building, including the economics of operation and financing of activities. Dan Lechmann, the spokesperson for the regional authority, stated this to ČTK. The goal is to transform the neglected building in Osice into a multifunctional facility intended for culture, education, and sports.
"We are preparing a discussion on the future use of the Škroup's house with experts and interested public. The meeting is expected to take place at the beginning of December. The purpose of the meeting is primarily to establish contacts with specific stakeholders who would like to use the building and to gain an understanding of their requirements and possibilities, whether it concerns space or financing," Lechmann said.
According to him, most of the key actors from the area and its surroundings, such as representatives of the Center for Artistic Activities, Hradec Destination Management, as well as the Local Action Group Hradecký venkov and the Urbanická brázda Microregion, as well as the Good Theater association, have promised to participate.
The building consists of a hall, an anteroom, two rooms on the ground floor, and three on the first floor. The region, which is the owner, received it as a gift from Osice at the end of 2018. The regional authority has already obtained a building permit.
On the ground floor of the Škroup’s house, there is a hall with a stage and backstage for performers. This is followed by an entrance area with a cloakroom and social facilities, as well as two rooms. Upstairs, there is a gallery of the hall and spaces of the original apartment.
The Škroup's house, designed in the interwar modern style by architect Jindřich Smetana, served its purpose until 1951. Theater performances were held there, there were dance parties and balls, and local schoolchildren and Sokol members used to practice there. Until 1966, the house also had a cinema, and there used to be a post office, library, barbershop, and a club of the Socialist Youth Union. At the end of the 1980s, the roof of the house collapsed.
Composer and conductor Škroup was born in Osice in 1801. He worked in the Estates Theatre in Prague until about the mid-19th century. He spent the last two years of his life at the Rotterdam opera. Škroup's song "Kde domov můj" was first performed in the play "Fidlovačka aneb Žádný hněv a žádná rvačka" by Josef Kajetán Tyl, and in 1918 it was legislated as the national anthem.
