Janov nad Nisou

David Pavlišta

Jablonec nad Nisou - Jablonec nad Nisou will have a city architect starting in April, and he will be David Pavlišta. He won the selection process competing against seven other candidates. He should assist the city with the preparation of conceptual documents, the cultivation of public spaces, and communication with investors. After a meeting of the city council, today the deputy mayor for development, Jakub Chuchlík (Pirates), told reporters. All coalition parties led by ANO agreed on the necessity of a city architect.

Semily has had its city architect for many years, and last year they started collaborating with one in Česká Lípa as well. In neighboring Liberec, the municipal office even has a seven-member Council of Architects.

"Of course, this position is not a panacea, and Jablonec will not become a significantly more beautiful city immediately, however, it is the first of important steps. The office is full of capable officials, but there is no one here who would focus on a creative view of the city's development. That is probably the core of the work," said Chuchlík. According to him, the city architect should prepare assignments for architects, propose a method for selecting designers, and will function as a professional consultant. To make his work flexible, the city opted for external collaboration with an expected scope of 600 hours per year.

The selection process was conducted in two rounds, and according to Chuchlík, eight people applied. Four advanced to the second round. "All candidates met the vision of who should perform such activities," Chuchlík stated. According to him, the commission unanimously agreed on the selection of David Pavlišta. "He previously worked in the advisory body of architects in Jablonec, and in his own practice, he largely focuses on public spaces and public buildings," he added. As part of his diploma thesis at the Faculty of Architecture in Liberec, Pavlišta dealt with Jablonec's Upper Square.
