Jičín - The city of Jičín has received a zoning study for the development of the former barracks from the studio Cuboid Architekti, making another step towards utilizing the attractive location near the city center. This year, the city hall wants to have project documentation prepared for the construction of networks and transport infrastructure. This was reported today by city hall spokesperson Magdaléna Doležalová. Buildings for housing should mainly be constructed on the eight-hectare site. In recent years, the city hall has had most of the buildings in the barracks demolished.
The architects will also finalize a catalog of types of family and apartment houses this year, which will serve investors as a guide to what types of houses can be built. The catalog will address the number of floors, the volume of built-up area, roof type, and options for garage parking. "In the given area, regulations will apply to ensure that the development seamlessly connects to the current development in Čeřovka and along the line of the linden avenue," the spokesperson stated.
The Cuboid Architekti office, with the development of the zoning study, followed up on its previous victory in the competition for the design of the new development of the area. The architects mainly anticipate family homes on the site of the barracks, and to a lesser extent, residential buildings. They proposed a kindergarten in the center of the area. The jury particularly appreciated the simplicity of the proposal and the fact that it does not create a foreign urban structure in the area.
Meanwhile, the city will also address the future of the warehouses in the back part of the area, which belong to the district court, this year. "In the past, the city tried to exchange the buildings with the court for others, but no agreement has yet been reached. The buildings are designated for demolition according to the study," Doležalová stated. The city hall will also seek to find use for the two outer buildings of the barracks facing away from the center, which should remain in the area.
Originally, the barracks area was to be redeveloped exclusively by private investors. However, neither of the two attempts to hand over the barracks to private parties were successful, and the city decided in 2011 to continue the revitalization on its own.
