Jihlava - The Jihlava city hall plans to request funding from the state, the region, and the public for a new multifunctional arena. According to its estimates, the hall will cost around 800 million crowns excluding tax, and the city will need an additional 200 million crowns for ancillary costs, including the demolition of the old ice hockey stadium. The number of the transparent account will be published by the city council on Thursday, city councilor and project manager David Beke informed CTK today.
The city will publish donor names on its website and social media. Larger contributors will have the opportunity to "acquire" one of the more than five thousand seats in the arena, said the councilor. The names of other larger donors will be projected inside the arena after its opening. The city is also considering memorial plaques and a time capsule with donors stored in the hall for future generations.
The new arena will replace the old Horácký ice hockey stadium, where the Dukla hockey team plays its home games. The club and the sports facility belong to the city. "Dukla Jihlava is the most well-known brand of the city and the Vysočina Region, and historically still the strongest hockey brand, which is recognized abroad as well," said Beke.
The new arena will be available not only for hockey matches but also for other sports, as well as concerts, theater performances, or conferences. The councilor stated that this is the largest project in the modern history of the city, with total costs at the level of its annual budget. The city plans to send applications for regional and state support for the arena next month.
Jihlava will pay nearly 65 million crowns for the complete project documentation for the multifunctional arena. The contract was awarded to the winner of the architectural competition, Josef Chybík, in collaboration with the Chybík+Krištof studio. According to recent information from the city hall, the demolition of the old stadium could begin at the end of next year. The construction of the new arena is planned to last about two years.
