Kladno - The Kladno bus station is set to undergo changes starting next year, with completion expected in 2018. The city leadership evaluated the architectural competition today, which will inform the project that the city will now commission. However, none of the proposals fully met the assignment conditions. This was stated today by the spokesperson for the Kladno city hall, Lenka Růžková.

One of the main goals of transforming the bus station and its surroundings is to improve passenger comfort, facilitate easy transfers between urban and intercity connections, provide a park-and-ride facility, and offer bicycle storage. The total cost of construction will be clear once the documentation is completed, but it is expected to be in the tens of millions of crowns. The city has already secured promised European subsidies. "If everything goes according to plan, we will start construction in the fall of 2017," the spokesperson said. The subsidies must be invested in the year 2018, so the project should also be completed by that deadline.

The city wants to coordinate the work with the repair of General Klapálek Street and the reconstruction of the adjacent department store to ensure that the construction activities take place simultaneously and thus minimize the disruption to the residents of the city.

The area near the Kladno bus station is situated between the historical city center and the brownfield site of the former Vojtěšská steelworks, directly adjacent to the pedestrian zone. In June of this year, the city evaluated the competition for a new design of this zone, but in this case, too, a winning proposal was not selected. Concepts from the best submissions will be used in the preparation of the project. The transformation of the city center is also expected to begin next year.
