Kladno - Kladno will begin preparatory work on the complete renovation of Svobody Square in the city center this winter. The project and building permit are completed. A budget is currently being developed, which is necessary for applying for European funding, stated the spokesperson of the Kladno city hall, Vít Heral, in response to a query from ČTK. According to earlier information, the total costs will be in the tens of millions of crowns.

"We aim to have the reconstruction completed by the end of 2025; preparatory work should begin in the winter," Heral informed. According to him, it is possible that the work could start this year, but it is also possible that it will not begin until January of next year.

After the renovation, the square will have new paving, and a significant change will be the surface materials that will allow for rainwater retention and its use for irrigation of greenery. The amount of greenery is expected to increase, and water features are to be created. The building in the shape of a ship, which also serves as a newsstand, will be removed by the city. There will be places for relaxation, and bus stops will also be renovated.

Kladno is also continuing this year with another part of the renovations of the main pedestrian zone T. G. Masaryk, which it is gradually repairing for over 110 million crowns. Svobody Square is located along T. G. Masaryk Street and near the Kladno city hall, as well as close to the hospital and polyclinic. It is one of the bus transfer points.

Kladno has over 68,000 residents and, according to the approved budget, will operate with 2.5 billion crowns this year, which is almost the same as last year.
