Kladno – Kladno is preparing for the renewal of Freedom Square in the city center for next year. It will continue from last year's completed part of the reconstruction of the adjacent pedestrian zone T. G. Masaryk. This year, the city is continuing with adjustments in other sections of the zone. Freedom Square should also have areas with trees, flowers, and lawns in its planned form. The costs are expected to reach around 50 million crowns, most of which should be covered by a European grant, said Mayor Milan Volf (Choice for the City) to journalists today.
In the spring of 2021, the city commissioned a sociological survey, which showed the authors what the local residents' needs are and how they perceive this space. "The proposed concept aims to offer a contemporary cultured public space with an emphasis on maintaining a large share of greenery," stated city hall spokesman Vít Heral.
The developed study of adjustments encompasses the entire area of the square, extending to the facades of the adjacent buildings and on the northern side to the boundary of the bus stop on Čs. armády street.
The continuation of the renewal of the T. G. Masaryk pedestrian zone in the city center is one of Kladno's largest investments this year. This year, part of the area from Tyršova Street to Starosta Pavel Square is expected to be repaired, with city hall management anticipating costs around 110 million crowns.
