Prague - President Václav Klaus today signed the construction law, which will simplify administration for builders. Instead of the original building permit, only a notification will be required for small constructions. It will thus be easier to build a family house, garage, or remodel an apartment. The legislation will take effect on January 1, 2007. The spokesperson for the Castle, Petr Hájek, informed ČTK about the signing. Based on the notification, family houses up to 150 square meters and three above-ground floors will be able to be built. The existing occupancy permits will also be eliminated. According to earlier statements by the Minister for Regional Development Radko Martínka, inspections on construction sites should be stricter and more frequent, even after their completion. The amendment also significantly reduces the administration associated with the preparation of large constructions. The law, which replaces a regulation from the mid-1960s, allows authorities to conduct inspections on construction sites even after their completion. Builders claim that the proposed law is revolutionary compared to the current legal state. Currently, the preparation for construction, including permits, often takes longer than the actual execution. They consider the main benefit of the new law to be the reduction of administrative burdens.
