Kolín

Kolín - Kolín today opened its municipal theater after a complete facade reconstruction. For the first time, the ceremonial lighting was turned on, including the backlighting of the theater's name, which had not previously been on the building. The city had it created according to the original design by architect Jindřich Freiwald.

Next to the facade, the theater has new windows on the eastern and southern sides, refurbished outdoor entry stairs including side pedestals for flagpoles, and the roofing of the technical courtyard has also been repaired. The theater was renovated by BFK service for 13.3 million CZK excluding VAT.

At the beginning of the year, the city placed four life-sized sculptures of muses in the theater foyer, which were made in the 1950s. According to Freiwald's original plans, they were to be placed on the theater's facade, but they never made it there.

The Kolín Theater is a significant functionalist building of Czechoslovak interwar theater architecture. It opened to the public in November 1939. The theater does not have its own artistic ensemble; it hosts various groups of different focuses. It also includes a municipal gallery, the Scapino club, and a studio scene called Pod točnou.
