Šumperk - Roofs made of shingle and other traditional materials and techniques are used by conservators when repairing church buildings in the Šumperk region. The return to ancient technologies is evident in the repair of churches in Žárová near Velké Losiny, Rejchartice, and Raškov, said Jitka Štáblová from the Šumperk branch of the National Heritage Institute.
Conservators also pay attention to preserving original windows and doors using stained glass or colored glass. "Stained glass windows were restored last year in the church of St. Giles in Úsov and St. John the Baptist in Nové Losiny," Štáblová stated.
Last year, repairs also began on the early Gothic Church of All Saints in Vyšehorky, which was included among the 25 most endangered monuments in the Olomouc region, for whose rescue the Ministry of Culture allocated five million crowns.
The repaired or under-repair monuments in the Šumperk region last year also included churches in Moravičany, Nový Malín, Horní Studénky, and Štíty, and preparations are underway for the repair of the Art Nouveau modified Empire church in Heroltice, which has recently been declared a cultural monument.
In addition to the Ministry of Culture, the Olomouc Region also funded the repairs of monuments last year, investing 17 million crowns in them.
