Jablonec nad Nisou - Jablonec nad Nisou needs to demolish the old kindergarten by the dam and is now looking for a contractor for the work. The unsuitable buildings will be replaced by a new kindergarten for 156 children. The demolition is a necessary preliminary step in the planned construction of a new kindergarten, with the cost of demolishing the old premises estimated by the designers at 10.8 million crowns excluding VAT. The company will have time for the demolition from March to August, said Jana Fričová, spokesperson for the city council, to ČTK. The first children should be welcomed by the new kindergarten in 2026.
The new kindergarten will be built by the dam on the site of the Free School, which has moved out of the area, and also on the site of the special kindergarten, which was a detached workplace of the Palackého kindergarten. "After several variants of examining the use of existing buildings, we concluded that it would be most suitable to demolish the complex and build anew. Those buildings were created in the past during 'action Z' and are not in good condition in terms of layout, construction, or building-technical standards," added Deputy Mayor Jakub Chuchlík (Pirates).
The city is now looking for a company to demolish the complex. "The subject of the public contract is the removal of the kindergarten building according to the developed project documentation. The kindergarten consists of five pavilions connected by a connector or hallways and stairs. Before the actual demolition begins, the building must be disconnected from the utilities," said Chuchlík. The demolition also includes the garden, where garden shelters, a sandbox, playgrounds, beds, play equipment, stairs, a fire pit, and part of the fencing need to be removed.
Before it will be possible to build the new kindergarten, a retaining wall needs to be constructed to create space for a new transformer station. According to Chuchlík, it is currently in one of the buildings designated for demolition. "The city is coordinating this relocation with ČEZ," said the mayor's deputy. Only after the new transformer station is completed will it be possible to finish the demolition. "This will complete the preparation of the site for the contractor of the new kindergarten building, for which a tender is also being prepared," added Chuchlík.
The city announced an architectural competition for the design of the kindergarten. It received 28 proposals. The winning design utilizes the terrain difference and has all six kindergarten classes on the upper floor at one level with direct access to the garden. The winning team of architects, consisting of Martin Vančura, Anna Koukolová, and Atelier Za Mák, placed the gym and a room for leisure clubs on the ground floor, allowing for independent operation of that part of the building. The authors also proposed a solution for the garden and surroundings, with the project costs preliminarily estimated by the designers at 120 million crowns.
