Zlín – The Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín will showcase the work of architect Pavel Šimeček. He is the author of more than 60 urban studies and significant buildings not only in the Zlín region. The opening, with the author in attendance, is scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, at 5:00 PM. The exhibition will last until September 26, the gallery representatives informed ČTK.
Šimeček's works will be available for interested parties to view as part of a series dedicated to prominent architects of the second half of the 20th century in the Zlín region. The gallery will present the contributions of one of the founding members of the Czech Chamber of Architects through plans, photographs, artistic works, publications, and personal documents.
A native of Uherské Hradiště, he will celebrate his 77th birthday in October. In 1979, he moved with his family to Zlín, where he began working at Stavoprojekt. He primarily worked on designs for housing estates and transportation solutions for city centers. He is also the author of the Centrum department store in Uherské Hradiště from 1987, as well as the operational building of the bus station and the overpass connecting the city center with the Jižní svahy housing estate in Zlín from 1988.
In the spring of 1989, Šimeček moved to the Office of the Chief Architect, where he focused on urban issues for the entire district. He also participated in numerous architectural and urban competitions, for example in Most, Frýdek-Místek, Znojmo, Orlová, Břeclav, Ostrava, Brno, and Bratislava. "Successes in these competitions brought him a number of contracts from all over the country and led him to establish a private architectural firm," said the gallery representatives.
Since 2003, Šimeček has been active in Brno, where he lectures externally, publishes in newspapers and professional journals, and sits on competition juries. "He enjoys drawing and is interested in art, history, sociology, transportation, and urban life. In addition to his architectural and urban work, which he continues to pursue, visitors can also become acquainted with his artistic creations and drawing reconstructions of historical buildings," stated curator of the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts, Ladislava Horňáková.
His interest in history led Šimeček to document modifications of the ruins of the Brumov and Lukov castles and to design their exhibitions. "He further develops cooperation with preservationists. His exhibition designs, featuring drawings of the assumed appearance of feudal residences, have been realized. The significant collection of Šimeček's drawing reconstructions of castles under the name Copuli lapidum (piles of stone), which was created based on the extensive Illustrated Encyclopedia of Moravian Castles, Fortresses, and Strongholds by Miroslav Plaček, is also continually growing," added the gallery staff.
Visitors can view the exhibition in the Graphic Cabinet on the second floor of Building 14 of the Baťa Institute. The gallery is preparing a guided tour with the exhibition's curator on Tuesday, August 3, at 5:00 PM. More information is available on the website www.galeriezlin.cz.
