Kyjov (Hodonín Region) - Kyjov in the Hodonín Region will be looking for a use for the old dairy building in the city center, which it purchased from a private entity for eight million crowns. Nothing has been produced inside for about ten years. Therefore, the city will announce an architectural competition on how to further deal with the building, Deputy Mayor Antonín Kuchař (Independent Group of Twenty-Seven) told ČTK today. The city acquired the building with a production hall and storage spaces along with a plot of land nearly 5000 square meters in size. "One of the reasons for the purchase was the fact that the space is located in the city center and is a lucrative plot. The building is not in very good condition and the surroundings are rather unsightly. People have been asking us why we don’t do something about it,” Kuchař stated. Another reason was to prevent anyone else from buying the property, who might build, for example, a hostel for socially maladjusted individuals. Therefore, the city council wants to renovate it and use it for the community. "After clearing it out, we might temporarily create a parking lot there until a project indicates what to do next,” Kuchař said. According to him, the site could develop into a shopping and community center, a sports center, an indoor swimming pool, apartments, or something else. "Let those who understand the matter express their views in the competition. Based on that, we will see if we will demolish the building and build from scratch or if we will utilize it,” Kuchař stated. The city will announce the competition in the second half of this year. "Next year we want to have a clear idea of what will be created in the space. As of now, we cannot even talk about costs. However, if we have the opportunity, we will definitely try to secure grants to save our own money,” the deputy mayor added. Kyjov has about 11,500 inhabitants. Last December, the representatives approved a surplus budget for 2015, which counts on expenditures of over 218 million and revenues of more than 220 million crowns.
