ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE/SLAVONICE - The legendary restaurant and gallery Besídka in Slavonice in the Jindřichův Hradec region, which has been associated with the Prague Theater Sklep since its establishment, is expanding. Its owner Jan Boháč has now purchased the adjacent house from the town hall, in which he plans to create a ceramics workshop, among other things. The expansion of Besídka will create new original rooms for guests and possibly also a bookstore, sauna, or fitness center.

Boháč sought the house on Horní náměstí for a long time, partly because the ground-floor room adjacent to Besídka was already rented from the town and used as part of the restaurant. "Now we have another opportunity for development, we will move part of the ceramics workshop from Maříž there," Boháč told ČTK. The fate of the other parts of the house with the garden is still open. The owner would like to create something that is missing in Slavonice, for example, a relaxation center and a bookstore.
The town hall sold him the house, which currently contains two apartments and a secondhand shop, for almost 3.5 million crowns. "It is a property whose maintenance and repairs are beyond the capacity of the town," Mayor Josef Urban told ČTK.
Besídka is also a community center, whose free spirit and artistic atmosphere attract people of various interests to Slavonice. Among other events, summer workshops of spiritual experiments and seminars are held there, even a wedding ceremony.
Eight people were at the birth of Besídka, and in their honor, original accommodation has been created in the building this year. Since August, there have been eight rooms named after the "founding fathers." By spring, two or three more will be added. "One will be dedicated to architect Roman Koucký, who created this place; I'm still unsure about the others. There are many people who deserve it; maybe one room will belong to Tomáš Vrba, who lent me the first money for Besídka," Boháč said.
Each room is completely different to reflect its spiritual owner. When they are not present, tourists can stay there. The patrons contributed to the furnishings, which is most evident in the decoration of the bathrooms. For example, wordplay and jokes on the tiles in Tomáš Hanák's bathroom can take an hour to read. The actor even advises the best way to use shaving water - to use it before shaving as well. Tourists also learn that even if they feel old and unnecessary in front of the mirror, they still have value, for example, for a rendering plant. The furnishing of Hanák's bathroom was evidently inspired: "The tiler is an old Russian profession," it notes. Among other curiosities is the black bathroom in Boháč's room, which was created from a black kitchen.
So far, the greatest interest has been shown by hotel guests in David Vávra's room at the top of the house, which resembles an inverted old ship. The architect conceived it as Noah's Ark and painted the entire crew on the bathroom wall. It is the largest room because the creators' principle was that it should accommodate the founder and his family.
