Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - The town hall in Litomyšl in the Svitavy region began this month, delayed, with the extension of the Piarist College. The work was delayed by nearly a year due to archaeological findings, which resulted in a change to the project. Michal Kortyš (ODS), the deputy mayor, told ČTK. Litomyšl has repaired the castle hill with the help of European grants and the state budget for 412 million crowns. The city ceremoniously opened eleven restored historical buildings and spaces this September. It has received an extension until June next year to complete the Piarist College extension. Archaeologists found a medieval core with a cellar next to the Piarist College, on which a younger building from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries was constructed. The findings capture the development of the historical plot from the settlement of the town in the 13th century to the 19th century. "After long discussions and careful justification, a compromise solution was approved. Compared to the original plan, we have to go higher. The library and the ceremonial hall will remain as planned. We had to justify this revised project to the Academy of Sciences, as its consent was necessary for the partial removal of the findings," said Kortyš. The college extension will be a partially sunken two-story building with a small pavilion in the attic. The ground floor will feature a multifunctional room, which will serve as both a ceremonial hall and an auditorium for the restoration faculty. On the upper floor, there will be, for example, a branch of the university library. The construction work will cost more than 23 million crowns.
