Litomyšl (Svitavy) - Litomyšl in the Svitavy region has completed the extension of the Piarist College. The project, costing over 20 million crowns, was delayed due to archaeological finds; otherwise, the city hall would have approved it last year. With this, the city has completed a European project called Castle Hill worth 400 million crowns after years. This was stated to ČTK by Deputy Mayor Michal Kortyš (ODS). "Now we will hold a public tender for furniture for the ground floor, where the auditorium and ceremonial hall will be located. The floor, where the library will be, will be equipped by the University of Pardubice. By early September, the building could serve its purpose," said Kortyš. The city had to revise the design of the extension due to archaeological findings that revealed remnants of medieval and modern settlements. The start of work was delayed by almost a year. The city handed over the construction in December. The city hall received an extension from the grant provider for completion. The European funds are not at risk, Kortyš noted. The revised project had to be defended by the city before the Academy of Sciences, as its consent was necessary for the removal of some finds. The extension of the college is a partially sunken two-story building with a small pavilion in the attic. The ground floor is a multifunctional room for the auditorium of the faculty of restoration and the ceremonial hall. On the floor of the extension, interiors have been created with a balcony for the university library branch. "However, the space in front of the extension currently looks unappealing. At the city's expense, we will repave the public space leading to the road to Česká Třebová and resolve the connection to the castle hill. Landscaping will also be carried out," said Kortyš.
