Litovel – Litovel in the Olomouc region is completing the construction of a sports hall for 96 million crowns. It will open on September 4th and will start serving the public two days later. The construction of the hall began last April. The city is financing the project with a loan and a thirty-million crown grant from the National Sports Agency. This was stated today by the mayor of Litovel, Viktor Kohout (SNK Litovel).
The investment includes the construction of the sports hall and dozens of parking spaces on the site of the Litovel Sokol building. The construction company has also built a volleyball and pétanque court. Inside the hall, there is a stand for 130 to 150 people. Instead of the outdated stand at the athletic and handball field, a covered section with seating for up to 130 places has been created on the side of the sports hall.
The new sports hall is connected to the adjacent Sokol building by a corridor. A new social facility and locker rooms have been built in the ground floor of the Sokol building, serving both buildings. "There is already great interest in the new sports hall and preparations for its active use are underway. We have planned the grand opening for September 4th," noted the mayor.
The Litovel City Council also approved a proposal for the city to invest an additional nine million crowns into the overall reconstruction of the sports complex where the new hall is located. The money will be used for the relocation of gas and electricity, securing the area, and for new fencing with flood barriers.
The original Sokol building next to the Litovel gymnasium was opened in 1935. According to Kohout, the sports complex has already seen its best years. Therefore, the city decided to build a new hall for multifunctional use by athletes and various associations. "The construction of the hall has been discussed in Litovel for eight or nine years since the project began. In the future, it would be nice to also renovate the athletic oval," added Kohout.
The city hall decided some time ago that not only the new sports facility, but also the sports hall and pool at the Vítězná Elementary School will be operated by the company Aktivní Litovel. "In the future, it should manage all sports facilities that the city owns," added the mayor.
