Hradec Králové – The city of Hradec Králové anticipates the announcement of a competition for the supplier of the Eastern Bohemia Museum exhibition by the beginning of the summer holidays. Kateřina Šmídová, the spokesperson for the city hall, told ČTK today. From preliminary consultations with potential interested parties, it emerged that if the project documentation is not adjusted, the estimated cost will increase from 15 million crowns without VAT to 20 to 25 million crowns without tax.
"Therefore, modifications to the project documentation are currently underway. This involves refining and adjusting the specifications," Šmídová told ČTK without further details.
The Art Nouveau building on Eliščina nábřeží commenced operations in November 2019 after reconstruction, opening five exhibitions, but without the planned exhibition, which, according to available information, will occupy two floors and whose foundation will consist of architectural elements of the city. The city has repeatedly failed to select a firm for the exhibition in the competition.
The historically valuable property is owned by the city, while the Královéhradecký region is the founder of the Eastern Bohemia Museum. The museum's renovation lasted from May 2018 and cost 100 million crowns including VAT. Approximately 75 percent of the renovation was financed by a European grant.
The museum building was designed by architect Jan Kotěra between 1909 and 1912. The museum was declared a national cultural monument in 1995.
