Milovice - Milovice in the Nymburk region will start renovations on the cemetery in spring. The costs will reach approximately 13 million crowns, and it is expected to be completed by the end of the year, said the mayor Lukáš Pilc (ODS) to ČTK. In the future, the city also wants to build a ceremonial hall.
According to the mayor, the current cemetery is old and neglected, and it will undergo a complete transformation to become a dignified place of rest.
Paths and parking spaces will be repaired, and the greenery will be restored. The cemetery gates and the cemetery wall will be new. The cemetery will not be expanded; only a new wall will replace the original one.
"In one place, the graves are unfortunately situated directly against the wall. There is a risk that if we were to demolish the wall, we could end up in a grave. We don't want that," said Pilc. A new wall will be built around one of the four sides of the cemetery, to which the original wall will be anchored to prevent it from collapsing. In the future, there should also be a columbarium for the storage of urns, although it will not be part of the planned renovation.
The city would also like to build a ceremonial hall, which is estimated to cost around 20 million crowns. "When someone dies, their loved ones should come here to say goodbye, in Milovice," said Pilc. So far, ceremonial rooms have been used in Nymburk or in the neighboring Lysá nad Labem.
