Author's report: The area of the former barracks is located not far from the center of Uherské Hradiště. Once a completely closed and inaccessible area to the public, it has fully opened to the needs of the city over the years. The insensitively renovated territory is losing its original character, with buildings cloaked in "cheerful" colors, creating a somewhat worthless facade without a concept, trying to be a pleasant place to live. The last undisturbed object is the mentioned wall, situated in the middle of this space. The solution is to create a cohesive core of the now fragmented area, coexisting with the wall. By erecting another wall, a space for its own enclosed world is created. Everything is handled as simply as possible, through raw concrete, light, darkness, and illusion. As a contrast to everything around. The impregnable lapidary building, with an apparently clear concept, can confuse visitors, leading them to other unexplored places or quickly bringing them back outside again. It opens up a space for relaxation, imagination, and asking ourselves who we are and where we are actually heading.
Jury's evaluation: A surprisingly well-executed project in the initial phase of study, demonstrating an understanding of working with space, light, proportion, and composition.
