Brno - The main winner of the competition for the best restored monument of the South Moravian Region for last year in the large building category is the rectory in Vranov nad Dyjí. In the voting via SMS, it received 3460 votes. The regional office announced this today in a press release. The local parish will receive 100,000 crowns from the region.
Among non-religious buildings, the first place went to the brewing exhibition in Znojmo. Among small structures, the most votes were received by the wayside cross in Horní Kounice, and from works of fine art, the organ in the Loreto chapel at the Minorite Monastery of St. John in Brno.
This year, only 11 buildings competed for the title of the best restored monument of the South Moravian Region. This is one of the lowest numbers in recent years.
"Given the number of registered cultural monuments this year, it has become clear that this concept of a competition, where the public votes via SMS, has somewhat outlived its usefulness. Therefore, we are preparing a new approach to the competition for next year," said councilor Tomáš Soukal.
The competition was held for the eleventh time. From March 12 to April 1, 2018, people sent a total of 6,408 votes via SMS. The results still need to be approved by the regional council.
