Completion of the modernization of the sports hall in Chrudim is expected to cost 385 million crowns

Chrudim – The lowest bid in the competition for the second and third stages of the extension and reconstruction of the sports hall at Tyršovo Square in Chrudim amounted to 385 million crowns. The estimated price according to the designer's budget was 115 million crowns higher, said Mayor František Pilný (ANO) to reporters today. The selection of the winner of the competition will be confirmed by the councilors in the autumn. The project represents a complete modernization of the sports and social center in the city and is the largest investment made by Chrudim so far.

A total of 16 applicants entered the tender. According to councilor Aleš Nunvář (Pirates), three other participants submitted bids lower than 400 million crowns. "We expect that at the turn of the year, or rather from the first months of next year, the actual construction would begin," Nunvář said.

In September 2024, the city opened the refurbished sports hall, which is the largest indoor sports facility in the city. The renovation, including the extension, cost the city 107 million crowns. In the next two phases, the city hall plans to convert the Sporthotel near the hall into a modern accommodation facility. They also plan to renovate the neighboring Tyršův dům and build a parking lot with a playground on the roof behind the hall. Due to the future traffic load, a roundabout will be created at Tyršovo Square. The parking garage is to be operated by the organization Sports Facilities of the City of Chrudim, which will save VAT.

In addition to the costs for the construction part of the project, the city will also have to cover technology, furniture, and construction and author supervision. This will require approximately 40 million crowns. The city wants to set aside an additional 50 million crowns as a reserve for any project changes, additional work, or equipment upgrades.

The future construction site will occupy parking spaces at Tyršovo Square and at the current parking lot behind the sports hall. Therefore, according to Pilný, the city will expand the possibility of parking cars at the nearby Moravova Garden.

Chrudim wants to take out a loan for the project and has issued a tender for a loan of 350 million crowns with a 20-year repayment period. At the same time, it wants to retain the option for early repayment. Banks should submit offers by November 3.

For this year, the Chrudim councilors approved a budget with revenues of 770 million crowns and expenditures of 909 million crowns. The deficit will be mainly covered by savings, partly also by an overdraft loan for pre-financing subsidies.
