On Friday, November 8, 2019, at 6:30 PM, the publication "Non-Places of Cities" by Anna Beata Háblová will be presented at CAMP in Prague.
The neglected, transient, and overlooked spaces of cities are examined in the new book by Anna Beata Háblová. Some non-places arise from ill-conceived construction, while others simply lack a reason to pause. Some irritate and deter us, while in others, we find an escape from the predictability of public space. Narrative "pauses," introducing essayistic chapters, allow us to view the issue from an expanded perspective. Rob settles into an unused space of a railway crossing on the outskirts of London. Chang abandons traditional roles and starts sorting plastics, living in intimate proximity to their dirt and smell. For Rami, the refugee camp is a prison with a weary hope of escape. But there are also many others for whom the need for a relationship with the place is essential. Through place, its history, and character, we discover what is called home, "our place" in the world. The book will be presented by Petr Zeman from the Empty Houses association, and the evening's guests will be Prof. Petr Kratochvíl and drummer František. The book is published by Host.
